A popular ship with Celebrity regulars, it is elegantly decorated and classy. The foyer has marbled floor, and elsewhere the ship is furnished with wood panelling. Art lovers will be impressed, as Mercury has a $3.5 million art collection on board.

Originally built as a five-star yacht, this ship is newer and more upmarket than Clipper Adventurer, and therefore more expensive. It specialises in adventure travel, cruising mainly in the South Pacific and Australasia.

Ryndam is almost identical to Maasdam, Statendam and Veendam and is classed as a mid-size Premium ship. It has some interesting décor, themed around Dutch worldwide exploration, with artwork and artefacts from the past 300 years.

There is a more spacious feel on this ship, as it carries fewer passengers than some others of a similar size. Almost identical to Ryndam, Maasdam and Veendam, offering the same, traditional cruise experience that is aimed at the American market.

One of the line’s Vision-class ships, Rhapsody of the Seas has floor-to-ceiling windows, a seven-storey atrium and retractable glass roof over the pool area. There are fewer cabins with balconies than on some of the newer, bigger ships in the fleet.

Sister ship to Diamond Princess, and of a similar size to Grand Princess, Golden Princess and Star Princess. A good standard of service, although passengers are not escorted to cabins on arrival.

Seven Seas NavigatorSeven Seas Navigator, Regent Seven Seas Cruises (Passenger/crew ratio: 1.5)
This cruise line is more expensive than others, but is worth the extra money as the product is excellent quality. Most of the 500 passengers on board this ship are American, although it does appeal to other nationalities.
